At Union Saint-Gilloise, it’s the same old story. Like other years, the club is facing a number of departures.
But for Philippe Albert, while the problem is familiar, they may have reached a breaking point, which could explain their lacklustre start to the season.
“The quality of the squad is lower”
“The Saint-Gillois’ latest poor performance is that of a team still searching for its identity, which is inevitably more fragile than in previous seasons. You can’t renew the heart of a team every summer for three years without facing a more difficult period at some point,” the former Red Devil analyzes for Le Soir.
Albert continues: “The quality of the squad is slightly lower, as we saw in the European double-header against Slavia Prague. Perhaps we’re reaching the limits of this constant renewal, we’ll see in a few days when the transfer window closes. In any case, we shouldn’t lose Sadiki and/or Machida, who we know are both highly sought after, otherwise it would become complicated…”
According to him, to address the club’s offensive problems, there is a solution: giving Loïc Lapoussin another chance. Currently in the B team, he could make a significant contribution. By clearing the air with the Malagasy player, there is something interesting to be done, he believes.
