A Belgian FA board meeting was scheduled for Monday, with an evaluation of the European Championship on the agenda.
While this evaluation was expected and demanded, the results have sparked debate. Several members believe that Piet Vandendriessche is not up to the task and has been far too lenient towards Domenico Tedesco, who is seen as the primary culprit for the Euro’s failure.
Vandendriessche Facing the Exit?
Following the board meeting, further meetings were held during which the pressure on Vandendriessche intensified. In addition to the Euro evaluation, the failed appointment of Vincent Mannaert is also being held against him.
The man who took over as CEO in mid-January could therefore be leaving the world of football soon, at the next board meeting. The former Deloitte boss is being pressured to resign, which would avoid having to pay him a severance package.
And to replace him, Mannaert’s name is circulating. The former Club Brugge executive could bring all his experience to the Belgian FA. His past issues with alcohol and his involvement in the “Clean Hands” operation have been widely discussed but are not seen as a problem, as they are considered to be in the past.
